Friday 24th April
Pleasant sunny day
walked round the pond and on to town via rugby field and canal
Pond on Friday 24th at about 2 o' clock
There's a willow tree on which I and others have taken to hanging nets of nuts.
Tits blue and tits great are frequent visitors.
Blackbirds are ubiquitous and the most visible birds, apart from pigeons, in the area.
I've shown this rowan tree growing in the fork of a birch several times before.
It's now sprouting this year's new leaves.

The East end of the pond from the foot of the stairway.
The terrapin's still there.
Dandelions are beautiful flowers and if they weren't so omnipresent and invasive they would be treasured.
Corvids of several kinds feed in the rugby field, here's a jackdaw.
See his blue eyes.
See his blue eyes.
This peacock butterfly has doubtless overwintered and is ready to mate in the spring sunshine.
There are lots of mallards with chicks now.
The attrition rate is immense, some families go from fifteen down to one or two in just a couple of days.
Saturday 25th April
Count 'em.
Last week I showed a photograph of a flower of this tree and asked for ID.
I might be developing a thing about dandelions.
I think they're beautiful (and they're good for bees).
Another plant I've shown before - a rose bay willow growing on the timber of a lock gate.
Is there any way of telling whether these duck eggs have hatched or been predated?
Small tortoiseshell sunbathing
Bluebells on the canal bank
Love weeping willows
